owen made me laugh so hard yesterday. first, he dirtied his bath water (both ways he can do that!) then last night he managed to roll clear off of his play mat. i'm talking a couple of full revolutions, here, not just rolling one way. when i saw what he did, i said, "look what you did!" he looked up at me and flashed me this great big grin as if to say, "aren't you proud of me, mom!" we need to keep an eye on him and get stuff off of the floor now! watch out for little man!
we've decided that for several reasons we are going to make our own baby food. any suggestions on books to get or other things we may need or need to know. (kristen?) we'll be getting a food processer sometime early next month and we'll likely start owen on rice cereal some time during spring break (next week for me). owen turns 6 months old in two weeks so we're getting close! we have our next check-up on the 14th and we'll ask the pediatrician what order to introduce foods in. i figure at that point that we'll have been doing the rice cereal for about a week.

there is a good book called healthy baby foods (or soemthing like that) it is yellow/cream colored and is written by an english woman who is also a chef and mom.
you may want a steamer - food is healthier cooked thay way (keeps more nutrients). start with the green veggies - peas, beans, broccoli; then yellow veggies like sweet potato (not yams, there is a difference), carrots, cauliflower, rutabaga, etc; then fruits - apples and bananas and then meats!
If you do fruits first, little people like the sweetness and it's a real challenge to get them to eat the green veggies.
If you are going to make stuff at home, buy new ice cube trays. Steam the veggie and then puree it. You might need to add a little water to make a nice smooth eating consistency. Then fill each ice cube holder to the top. It is the perfect 1 oz serving size. For his first few meals, he will probably only eat one at a time. In another month or so, he will probably eat a veggie and a fruit and then a few weeks later, it is probably one fruit and cereal for breakfast; one fruit and one veggie and cereal for lunch; and for dinner, one of veggie, fruit and meat.
But you will learn and get the hang of it.
Have fun!
