Frustrations

Do Not Disturb
Thank You!

This is what is printed (in red) on a sign that I hang from my door at school when I am pumping. Twice, so far, I have had people just ignore the sign and walk right on in. One was an adult who walked in and said, "I hope that doesn't apply to me. I just need to get my water cup." (It does, and she is in my room in the afternoons for the afterschool program.) Then this morning, I had a 5th grader open my door and start in. I stopped her at the door, but it was a bit awkward nonetheless. I don't lock my door because I often forget to unlock it and then leave and close my door with the keys inside. Why don't people read and comprehend? It's not that difficult a concept!

This sort of happened to me also Stephanie. I would shut my office door and close the blinds. My male boss would knock...but he wouldn't come in. After the third time, he told my admin "I am so embarrassed, you would think that with a wife and two children, I would realize what is going on." Luckily for me, I didn't have to have a talk. That said I also had previously casually mentioned to my admin that it was personal time to pump. She was able to help direct people away from me at those times. So perhaps you should try a conversation with one or two close co-workers and let them network for you.

Most of the adults have it figured out (what I'm doing, that is). Being in a school, though, it's not always easy to have the control over the kids in the hallway, especially the older ones. I suppose a basic lesson on manners would be good...

This student who walked in on me is the daughter of a good friend of mine. I let her mom know. I know it won't happen again, at least not with her.
